I Watched While You Slept

Shh, softly, gently, I dare not wake her, this Angel by my side
I dare not whisper her name as a smile
Plays across my lips, that
I have no fear to hide
Where has she gone in her dream?
Do we hold each other's hands?
Do we dance?
Do we stand on a mountain top?
Or a rocky shore by chance?
Am I there?
Do we make love?
The Cosmos in all it's glorious wonder
Passes by over head
The night and Father Time marches slowly, inexorably, relentlessly forward
As I lie next to her in her bed
Can she grow to love me, this Daughter of Eve?
Would she, could she, should she;
Yes even that
If ever I would have died
At my graveside, like Juliet
Would she have wept?
All this passed through my mind
As I watched, while you slept.

Author's Notes:
We have all done this. Every single person on this planet looked down on the object of our desires while they were sleeping

Stunning! Poetry at it's finest as is evidenced by the award.

This is just a slice of heaven to read on such a cold blistery night.  Thanks for warming me up.  Wonderful poem.

Great work Paul. I like the range of "thoughts" you portray.

Beautiful! I've watched over my husband as he sleeps at times, wondering the same thoughts you have penned so beautifully here...I've watched my children in their sleep, smiling at their giggles and murmurings as they relive some happy moment in their dreams.
A wonderful write...

Watching over the ones I love as they sleep....

Gentle, heartwarming, poem expressing such tenderness. Who says that the age of romance is dead?

This is written incredibly well Paul!

There is a soft wonderment expressed here...this questioning is an exploration of her thoughts and feelings...are you seeking to discovery of how much of YOU her heart holds?

Beautiful poem! Welcome back Walshy!
