Falling Asleep
I remember you
falling asleep next to me,
promised not to watch you
so I listen to your soft sighing breath,
and in that moment,
between inhalation and exhalation,
I captured happiness,
and locked it inside of me,
knowing how lucky I was
having someone like you,
but the moment ended all too soon
and the air escaping your lips
reminds me that you
are slipping through my fingers,
so I promised myself
to make the most of whats left
and to someday find someone
who listens to my breath
as I fall asleep beside them.
Author's Notes:
Falling asleep and waking up next to someone you love are two of the best things in the world.
