Drawing From The Well
As I slowly draw myself out of the well again,
The pail is half-full of softly falling rain,
Glinting in the moonlight.
But I can never understand
The salty taste on my lip
Or the loneliness of the night.
Overflowing with regret the pail topples back,
And I lose myself in the darkness again,
Only to start hauling on the rope anew,
What else can I but do?
Author's Notes:
Always indomitable.
