A Heart, In Pencil
She starts with a line.
Her pencil dips, and marks the surface,
Scratches a point,
Then another,
And between them a line,
A connection.

She stares at the line.
It's all wrong, too long,
Winds around with no reason,
It should be shorter,
The points closer,
Touching.

She tries to erase the line,
To perfectly remake it,
But it won't disappear,
The connection too strong
For the points to let go,
Separate.

She draws another line,
Lead tearing into the page,
Her artist's soul unleashed,
Pouring herself out,
Again and again,
Bleeding Grey.

She ends with a line.
Her pencil rises off the paper,
It is done, finished.
The points seem closer now,
She feels nearer now,
To him.
