Your House
Lord, your house is beautiful.
Light through stained-glass windows
Bathes old wooden pews in hues
Of purple, orange, and rose.
The roof rises above like a great bird
Taking wing to your side.
The smell of generations settles on my nose
And brings me back to a childhood.
Memories of vacation bible school
Sweetly play behind my closed eyes.
Deep red pew cushions, velvety and soft
Invite me to stay.

Okay...where did those comfy velvety cushions come from. The pews I remember were all just wood. ((end, nothing more)) *smiles* This is very soft and delicate Dori, a very special visual treat. "The smell of generations settles on my nose"...oh how true this is! How many times a certain scent takes me back...I can realte to this. Vacation bible there is something that hasn't come to mind in a long, long time. "The roof rises above like a great bird
Taking wing to your side"...I loved this simile. Thank you for sharing this with us.

It is certainly no mystery why this poem has won a FP award. *smiles* Congratulations!

Just lovely...filled me with such peace and brought me back to some of my own memories of faith and sanctuary. Congrats on the award.

How wonderful to have you back at work. I've missed your magic; your fantastic phrasing, your unerring choice of words, your heartfelt sentiments, your very presence. Don't go away again, Dori. I need your inspiration. This is perfect in every way. ML
