Eleven fifty-nine
I wonder what Cinderella thought,
At eleven fifty-nine,
If she would have given everything
To freeze the hands of time.
How did she tear herself from loving arms
That swept her across the floor
To return to a troubled life
Where she would love no more?
And what if it were not a fairy-tale
And "happily ever after" never came?
If she were told she could never keep him,
Would she still have done the same?
Memories or hope--
What if there were just one she could choose?
Dreaming endlessly of a man to come
Or remembering a love she had to lose?
And through that final kiss
Was regret born for the rest of time?
Was there sorrow in her heart
At eleven fifty-nine?
