No Place To Call Home
A plastic bag held her belongings Unkept hair stuck to her face Her appearance was dishevelled Void of elegance and grace I asked her where she came from But she said she had no home I wondered with much sadness Why this woman was all alone She couldn't meet my eyes So unsure she seemed to be Life had not been kind Was how things seemed to me She had been without food Since the beginning of the day How she longed for a shower And a place where she could lay She turned and walked away After I handed her the key She disappeared into the darkness And I felt nothing but pity
Author's Notes:
A woman came into the motel where I work and she had been sent by the Dept. of Human Services. I was so saddened by her plight and couldn't help but wonder how her life had come to this?
