How many times have I thought of you
And put this pencil to its paper?
Then struggled to find the words
Before they dissipate into vapor?

I want so much to capture you
And all the moments you’ve amazed me.
Want so much to clearly express
Your beauty and your mystery.

Laughter, structure, pioneer, adventurer.
Enigmas intertwined.
Compliment lover, so much to discover
About yourself and mankind.

You are a sunset, steady as time;
Setting without fail each day.
But who knows which colors your maker will use
To paint your brilliant landscape?

Today as we walked to your first day of school,
You held my hand so tight.
The tears in my eyes must have been there because
Your colors were so bright.
