My Dad
I know it's a little late for Father's Day

But there are some things I felt the need to say

Most of all, thanks for being my dad

For sticking through the good and the bad

Sometimes you made me cry, sometimes just sad

But I still think you're the best to be had

I remember the bedtime prayers and goodnight kisses

And how much we all hated your whiskers

I remember the piggy-back rides

And the rules by which you made us abide

I remember hiding when you came home from work

Because I was afraid of the spanking I knew I deserved

I remember coming to you in the middle of the night because of the ache in my leg

And you would rub and rub until there was no more pain

I remember that even though we didn't have much

We had more than some in our abundance of love

Things are a little different now

Sometimes I'm left wondering how

It all went by so quickly, so fast

Those moments changed so swiftly into the past

The memories we made I'll treasure forever in my heart

Even though growing up wasn't easy and sometimes quite hard

Thank you for loving me no matter what

For being tough on me and never giving up

Thank you for being the best example you knew how to be

And for always being faithful to our family

I love you tons, I'm so glad you're my dad

And yes, I still think you're the best to be had
