Carrousel World Waltz

Merry-go-round plays a carnival sound,
Calliope pipes on a warm, summer night.
Wood horses painted in course, garish colors,
All varnished, and sparkling, so bright

Wind's in our hair and we haven't a care.
Our steeds chase the breeze to our young heart's delight.
Calliope sings as we reach for the ring,
We hold on with all of our might.

The magic we shared at that late summer fair,
Lives in my heart like it happened today,
The memory of you as the girl I once knew,
Is a treasure I'll never replace.

The laughter of children as we pass them by,
Time and again on our carrousel ride,
Will always be calling me back to the time,
When love flowed like sweet summer wine

I still remember that early September
Diamond stars shine in the late summer sky
You were the girl of my carrousel world
Back in the days you were mine....

Author's Notes:

Lol, don't be silly!  This poem was very heartfelt.  I think we all have that girl (or boy, for the girls) that we wished we'd have spent more time with, always wondering how things might have turned out.  One day, I'll be old enough to look back at childhood crushes and romances...  But until then, I'll leave that stuff to you, Dirt!

A brilliantly written poem. I could hear all of your sounds. You went beyond the typical one sense (sight) poem and allow for hearing, touch, and a feeling of love. Great poem. Well deserving of the award.

My first comment was for the poem. This, however, is for your "About This Poem" remarks: LOL! The truth has been revealed! Cheers, cititzens, for our plan of writing crappy poetry has reached fruition! Len's got his award! We can all go back to writing much better crap than he's ever produced. :-P

...Joking, of course. I'll go back to writing good poetry. The rest of you, carry on. It's my turn!

By gosh, there IS a Santa Clause! LEN GOT A BLUE RIBBON! You're a hero to all of us who've tried and failed. I'm proud, len. Proud! And so happy for you. No matter what, they can't take that away from you. Can they? I know all those mentioned in your acceptance speech are gratified. LEN GOT A BLUE RIBBON! That would look good on a bumper sticker. I'd buy one. ML

Len, I do love this. I'm so relieved to know you have some pleasant memories of the carnival. This is a good one. I love the merry-go-round. I love the calliope singing, the breeze in the hair, the horses chasing the breeze, the memory of love. I love the whole thing. ML

My musical failings are legendary, but I could almost put this to music in my head. It must truly sing for others. And no, music won't be poetry part 2. I'm definitely dead to musical talent. I've tried.

Is this the Len we know and love? You've been going to too many fairs at this time of year. It is lovely and shows that you can be the big cheese if you want to. (looks around to see if there are any super hero cars parked nearby) :)
